What we have done and plan to do this year

Pumpkin Fest 2014:  We are already looking forward to doing it again this year! It was our pleasure to once again be involved in the annual Community Services Society fundraiser “Pumpkin Fest”.  For this year’s event, the West Van Firefighters put on a display of fun for the family by creating a new event called the "Fireground Heroes" obstacle course.  Kids of all ages had a blast donning their fire coats and helmets and going to rescue “stuffies” from the upstairs bedroom of our “Burn House” and blasting the fire hose at the “fire” to put it out.  Our thanks to the North Vancouver district Fire Fighters Charitable Society for allowing us the use of their Burn House.

All 50 of the Pumpkin Fest volunteers were sponsored by our Society, as was the family gymnastics event. It really was a treat that when asked if this was a fundraiser we were able to say "no, today we are giving our funds and our time in support of our community's event".

Bright Nights (BC Professional Fire Fighters Burn Fund) at Stanley Park:  Come down to the Stanley Park Train area and wander through the 1 million lights that have been hung in the trees and displays.  This fund raiser is set-up and run by various fire fighter Locals from across BC.

Muscular Dystrophy Boot Drive:  November 23 and 24.  We had a many off duty members come out and shake the Boot for MD, raising $3400 over the weekend.

Bagpipes by the Beach: The West Vancouver Fire Fighters Charitable Society will be hosting their 7th “Bagpipes by the Beach” Pipe Band Festival on Saturday, June 14th, 2014, at Ambleside Park.  The festival featured over two hours of music from Police, Fire, and Military pipe bands from the Vancouver area.

The purpose of this exciting, family-oriented event is to raise money for the West Vancouver Fire Fighters Charitable Society (a registered and incorporated Society in BC), which in turn distributes funds to various charities and recipients in and around West Vancouver and the North Shore - all proceeds of the event will go directly to the Society.  Our last event was a huge success – approximately 2000 people attended, and over $19,000 was raised by entry gate donations and net sponsorship funds.

This event is quickly gaining notoriety as one of the “must-see’ events in West Vancouver, and was mentioned in an article in the Georgia Straight newspaper – follow this link to read the article:  http://www.straight.com/article-782131/vancouver/west-vancouver-offers-far-more-wealth
