What THEY said...
The generosity and dedication of the West Vancouver Charitable Firefighters Foundation to North Shore Volunteers for Seniors over the years has been nothing short of remarkable. Not only do they contribute financially to our non-profit society, they attend our seasonal events with unfailing goodwill and genuine pleasure. Their support is very much appreciated.
– Trudy Hubbard, Executive Director - North Shore Volunteers for Seniors.
West Vancouver's Firefighters have helped change the equation of homelessness on the North Shore through the Dundarave Festival of Lights. One boot at a time, they have led our community in raising over $120,000 and counting through five Christmases. Their contribution to the Lookout Society's North Shore Shelter has inspired our community to give generously. The result has been a small miracle. The Shelter has been able to double its transitional support staff, a service for which they receive no funding from government, because of the money West Van's Firefighters have helped the Dundarave Festival of Lights raise. As the demand on the North Shore Shelter increases, driven by more seniors and youth coming to their doors, the money we have raised together has allowed the Shelter to double its transitional support work giving more focused, intensive and meaningful attention to the most vulnerable people in our community. The result is amazing. More people than ever before are able to get back on their feet, find stable income and put a roof over their heads. West Van's Firefighters have played a heroic role, consistently, above and beyond the call of duty, in helping the Dundarave Festival of Lights end homelessness beautifully.
- Michael Markwick, Chair - Dundarave Festival of Lights.
The West Vancouver firefighters have played a key role in making the North Shore Scotiabank MS Walk a success. In addition to having a team of firefighters set the pace by running the seawall, their antique and current fire trucks always spark interest in the crowd. The firemen have raised money for the MS Society in a variety of ways over the years, including collecting donations in the malls and helping raise awareness of the upcoming MS Walk. The MS Society would like to thank the West Vancouver Firefighters Charitable Society for their ongoing financial support and participation.
